wine, wine & more wine.

i had a great time wine tasting yesterday &had an amazing lunch and dinner. after wine all day (930a-830p), i was definitely not going to be heading out to the bars or clubs. i managed to find some free wi-fi but was unsuccessful in trying to upload any pictures to the blog. i have a field trip all day and will be doing my best to get a picture or two up before leaving cape town.

i am sad to be leaving though it hasn't hit yet. we have spent the most time here and it has been incredible. using the ship as a hotel definitely has its advantages (and free meals..). i have done all i could in the time we had and have felt so comfortable here. maybe i'll transfer to stellenbosch and take up a new major in wines. its a real major, i swear! i'm just kidding, mom &dad!

i will get into more detail when i write my big post -- which i may try to break up day-to-day -- but i am glad to say that i have seen both sides of cape town. the waterfront where we are docked is incredible, has every store one could think of (including a lamborghini dealership?) and is very pricey. on the other hand, there are the townships, where the majority of the black population live. its a striking juxtiposition.

i don't want to get onto too much of a roll now, i have to get myself ready for another long day. i am visiting the afrikaans language museum for two of my classes and then we are going to be wine tasting, again. we are supposed to be back at the ship around 5p, but i'm hoping we'll be back a little earlier so i can get some wi-fi time!

Thanks for the BD wishes! First time I ever got them from Africa! I definitely want to hear all about the different wines. It sounds perfect for me, we might just have to go back for a visit!
Aunt T would have fun with my word today...it is methe...it guess it could be ...me the wine taster... or ...met he at the winery. It is like they left off a few key letters? Anyway, have fun and we certainly hope you get to send a picture...but don't get too frustrated. You can spend time when you get back and put together a slide show that you can burn to CD's for all of us! That would be real cool! Not as cool as you showing them to us...but we could set up a conference call with everyone and we can all be looking at the slides on our computer. You can tell I work with people that do this type of thing all the time. :-)
Uncle D says Hi! And Move it...Move it...(he is really stuck on that movie)
Have fun!
Love,
Aunt D

My Laura,
We don't have skype on the new computer:( boo hoo. I would have loved to seen your face and hear your voice at the same time. Nani and I went shopping today, you know the basic Costco, kohl's and BIG-Y. Dad is bringing nani home now and I am going to watch the Oscars. Dad and I saw "Slumdog Millionaire" so at least I can say I saw one nominated movie. We picked a tremendous one to see, too. Hope your trip to the museums were informative. I await your blogs for details.
My word is: Nelae. I think she is an African Queen or at least a new Disney Princess!!

love you forever,
Momma

Dearest Laura,
I came home from Nan's & was reading comments. You'll never guess what "the word" is. "whitingu" Mom, Rebecca, AD & I are all standing around in amazement. How's that for fate.. As long as it's wine, wine & more wine and not whine, whine & more whine. Can't wait to hear about Capetown. Even Aunt "t" didn't get whitingu. Hope the new camera is too your liking. LMM is right, more snow for UNH. Icy roads and windy here tonight. Like Aunt D, I'll get birthday wishes from afar - The Panama canal for me.

Love, Dad
